Besides making our I-Movie and then reviewing our own movies, we were asked to grade our selves and 4 other groups. Each groups I-Movie needed to be about a different pharaoh. Here are my rubrics.

I-MOVIE RUBRICS:

I- Movie Presentation

Notes:

• Our introduction gave background information on Hatshepsut and how she became pharaoh. It was clear and relevant. It included the time period and the dynasty in which she ruled.
• We explained the achievements of Hatshepsut and how these achievements effected Ancient Egypt.
• We gave examples of some of Hatshepsut's architectural achievements but we did not explain how her religious beliefs were shown as well as we should of.
• Our narration did not match the images that were shown on screen yet they were all relevant and most were interesting. Also most were of good quality
• Our narration was clear and loud and there was little background noise.
• Our transitions and effects were placed in good proportion. There were not to many nor were there too few.
• Our MLA citations were correct for websites and books but our image citations were incorrect. Overall I think we did OK.

Notes:

· Their introduction was clear, relevant, correct and was also entertaining. It also included the time period and dynasty in which he ruled.

· They clearly explained the achievements Ramses II made during his reign.

· They described and explained the architectural achievements Ramses II made during his reign. They forgot to include how his religious beliefs were shown in these structures.

· Most images were interesting, relevant and were of good quality but there were some that were not all relevant. (For Example, the random Egyptian chair!)

· Their narration was clear fluent and easy to understand. Little background noise could be heard.

· The transitions and effects used helped to improve the imovie. At no time did they get annoying.

· It was really hard to see the MLA citations (TOO FAST!)

Notes:

· They acted out the beginning of the movie, then gave detail information on King Tuts past (Background Info). They also included the time period and dynasty in which King Tut ruled.

· They only explained 1-2 of King Tut's accomplishments, yet these were explained in great detail.

· A few architectural achievements were included and they described how this showed King Tuts religious beliefs were showed through these structures.

· They included interesting images which were relevant to the subject and their pictures matched their narration.

· The narration was clear and background noise could sometimes be heard. It seemed like they had practiced beforehand.

· There were few transitions in their movie which helped further improve their movie.

· They had their image URL’s on their movie but they did not do the proper MLA format.

Notes:

· Their introduction was about Egypt in general, not queen Nefertiti. Also they did not include the time period in which Queen Nefertiti ruled.

· They did not explain her accomplishments Nefertiti made during her rule.

· Described the monuments she had created and how this reflected on her religious beliefs.

· Their images were relevant, interesting and of good quality. Their narration usually matched their text.

· Their narration was loud but they spoke too fast, it was hard to understand what they were saying at times.

· Their transitions were in proportion, not to many nor were there to little.

· Their MLA citations were TOO FAST to see!

Presentation

Notes:

· Introduction was clear and relevant and included the time period in which Khufu ruled. Would be better if they mentioned the dynasty and the time period in which he ruled at the same time, not during two different points in the movie.

· They only had one of Khufu’s accomplishments included in their movie (The Great Pyramid of Giza). This was the same accomplishment they used for his architectural achievements. It was well explained though.

· They did not mention how ‘The Great Pyramid of Giza’ showed Khufu’s religious beliefs.

· Pictures were interesting, of good quality and were sort of synchronized. Some pictures were shown a little to early so they did not make any sense (like the golden 23)

· Their Narration was loud and clear but background noise got in the way some of the time.

· There were few transitions in their imovie. It was fine as it was but a few more transitions would have been nice.

· Could not understand your MLA citations, they were really blurry and fuzzy.

Ancient Egypt Imovie Reflection

My class (6B) has been studying the ancient Egyptians. We were then asked to choose a pharaoh of ancient Egypt and then create an imovie with information about architectural achievements, accomplishments, an introduction to the pharaoh and the time period and dynasty in which he/she ruled. My partner (Kennedy) and I chose to study queen Hatshepsut.

I believe we had most all of the requirements in the rubric included our imovie project. Our introduction about Queen Hatshepsut was relevant to the imovie and we included the time period and the dynasty in which she ruled. We gave background information such as the name of her parents, husband and her son.We also included other information such as how she became pharaoh and how she lost her power.My partner and I included information about Hatshepsut and her accomplishments. We included only 2 or 3 accomplishments she made during her reign. I think we should have included a few more. We were also asked to include information about Hatshepsut's architectural achievements. My partner and I had information about the statues,temples and monuments she ordered to be made. We then added information about what gods Hatshepsut showed loyalty to by having each building created.

I think that my partner and I co-operated well throughout this project. By sharing documents and notes via email when working at home, we were both able to see what had been done and what still needed doing. Unfortunately we missed a lot of work time as my partner and I both had to go and practice for an Chinese new year assembly.The only major problem apart from that was being able to send the imovie file to computers at school. Our emails were unable to send because it was 54Mb in size. In the end we used a web based site (www.yousendit.com) to download and send the file.

During this imovie assignment my partner and I both had to learn how to cite our sources in MLA citation format. Neither of us had done this before, resulting in us doing part of it incorrectly. Our citations for our websites and book sources were correct, but the citations for the images were not. When collecting the images we collected the image URL and not the website URL which we were also supposed to collect, therefore making our MLA citations for our images incomplete.

We were also asked to choose someone other than our partners and give feedback about their imovie. I choose to comment on Tem and Yu Ern's imovie on King Tut. They had a interesting and relevant introduction to the pharaoh. They included the dynasty and the time in which he ruled. They mentioned only 1 or 2 of King Tuts accomplishments during his reign. They included a few of the architectural achievements of King Tut and what gods he showed loyalty to by creating them. I really liked how they acted out the beginning and how the narration matched the images on the screen. I think that they could improve the speed of their narration, it was a bit too fast. Sometimes it was hard for me to understand what they were saying. Overall I thought it met most of the rubrics requirements.

City Connection Reflection

Over the past week, my class 6B has been sharing connections with a city we have lived in, compared to Egypt. We were asked to create a powerpoint that explained and showed the environmental factors, historical factors, statistical information and images of maps and images of the country and its surroundings. We then had to present our presentation to the class and then sit down and watch them present.

I think I did well in making my slideshow visually appealing by using slide transitions and the effective use and placement of pictures and photographs. The content of the presentation is a good overview, this is supported by many photos of Melbourne and its surroundings.

I will improve the amount of text I put on my slides. On some of my slides I had the right amount of text on the slides and on others there was too much text on the slide. I could add more slides which would help reduce the volume of text on each slide and this would help make my presentation longer and even more informative.

For future presentations, I learnt that it is easier to plan out what I am going to say to my audience. I will try to memorizing what I am going to say or write it on notecards for my next presentation.

I learnt from my peer's presentations, that it is difficult to understand what people are saying when they speak really fast. It is better to speak really slowly than to rush through what you are going to say.

I met each of the requirements on the rubric by having the rubric open while I was creating my presentation. I used the rubric as a check-list that I referred back to while creating and editing my slides. I could then ensure that I had everything that was required for me to have in my slideshow presentation.

My Learning Profile

            It is hard to believe but you can figure out what side of your brain is more dominate by knowing your dominate eye, ear, hand and leg. It's strange but surprisingly true. By knowing this I was given a letter which represented my learning style. My letter was A and I was also given a profile that gave me more information about myself. From this I learnt that...


1. I learn best when I pay attention to the details. I need to read and be able to understand the details before I am able to fully understand the main idea.


2. I need to work on connecting to information emotionally. When reading a book for pleasure I am able to feel emotion. But when it comes to text books and more non-fiction type books I am  usually unable to connect with it emotionally


3. A strategy I have to help me in my learning is to learn how to manage my time better. I tend to get distracted very easily. One way to help me manage my time is to learn how not to procrastinate.  I will try to put off doing things (eg. Homework) which only wastes more time. I also need to learn how to prioritize. I will try and do things in order of how important they are. For example if I have something due tomorrow and something due the day after tommorow, I will do the assignment that is due tomorrow first.


4. I would like my teachers to know that I prefer to work alone on projects or assignments. I usually end up doing most of the work. People know that I will get the job done anyway and by knowing that they tend to think I will do the work for them.

It's 2011!

New Years Resolution 1: Keep in Touch with Family and Friends.
My first New Years resolution is to keep in touch with family and friends. I could do this via email, phone, skype or I could write a letter. Going to an international school, I am used to friends having to move to other places. By keeping in touch with them via email it will help me to miss them less as they will still be a part of my life. I would also like to communicate with relatives as I usually only see them once a year. Its nice to find out what is happening in their lives.

New Years Resolution 2:  Organize my room and locker.
A major issue with me is that I am terrible at organizing things. No matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to organize anything. My room tends to get messy, making hard for me to find anything! My locker is very cluttered. When I organize my locker, it becomes messy again after a few days. If my locker was cleaner I would be able to find things more easily, helping me to be on time for class

A Snapshot of my Holiday: Yabbying

The bullfrog croaked in the distance. The murky pond remained still apart from the ripples caused by the falling of leaves. My family and I lugged all the equipment up the steep path. We were going yabbying.
Yabbies are a sort of  freshwater crustacean found in Australia. To catch them you tie a piece of string to a stick, tie a piece of meat to the other end of the string, stab the stick into the ground and throw the meat into the water. The only problem with Yabbing is that it requires alot of patience and waiting around, which dosen’t  always come that easily with me!
My mum set up about four lines around the waters edge. All that was left to do was to sit around and wait for a tug. About ten minutes passed and there was no sign of life. The water remained absolutely still. It seemed like the whole lake had been fished out. But luckily that wasn’t the case.

Look!” my brother Bryce yelled “The line, its moving!” We turned our heads in his direction. The line he was pointing at had become tense. There was definitely something biting at the line.  
“I’ll get the net, Steph can you please pull the line in” My mum asked me. I willingly rushed over to where she was standing and grabbed ahold of the line. I slowly pulled the line up. I was careful not to make any sudden movements, because if I did I would scare away the yabby. All of a sudden my mum swung the net down and scooped up the yabby. We finally caught one!
“Yes” I yelled in happiness. I held my hand out to my mum for a hi-5. I was overjoyed!
As time progressed lines became tense more frequently. We caught more and more yabbies. The more yabbies we caught the better we became at catching them. By the end of the afternoon we had caught around 20 yabbies. It truly was a memorable experience.
